nightmare team

Hey guys,

heres a painting (yay)

just thinking up a team of gals at this point not too sure what to do with them...

nothing too crazy...

one of them has a reverse dream catcher thing (?!) aka nightmare powers (woo!)

the other one's a knight with a panther-ish helmet that was fun to design.
and... a dark armored elf lady trying to get the armor to contrast against her pale skin.

Process wise- just basic rough sketch, rough color block-in under the lines and then painting opaquely over top.

trying to keep the values close, yet having the hues differ from character to character was a tough balancing act. still don't feel like i nailed it down, but hey.... needa work on balancing multi-figure comps. i have a lot of fun and learning a bit. totally gonna do more of these.

i don't think i have much more to say about this one, but yeh..

Valiant Goddess Process

Hey guys! :D

I made a GIF of what my process is, and yes, its messy.  

I had some, or a few(?) people asking for the psd to this file, but I really don't think it'd of much help anyone who looked at it. Because, I really only paint on one to three layers, tops.

So I'll just do my best to explain a little of what goes into things of this nature. 

I start off with a low res sketch, then once i'm happy with the composition I up the size of the file, to around 300 dpi.

next I paint in all up in grayscale, and then add a soft light layer on top to add a light wash of the colors I plan on using, but that can always change, so thats why I put it on its own layer.

Once I'm happy with the overall colors I flatten that all down to start painting in details....

 open a new layer paint details, flatten, etc, etc... then do another detail pass 'til I feel I am happy with it. then i call it done and merge any remaining layers (if any?)  

really I treat it like if I was painting in a acrylics or oils. 

so not many fancy photoshop tricks other than overlay and soft light layer settings, for this painting anyways haha ^^

a simple tip

I've been under the weather lately, so, I'm sorry I haven't posted in awhile you guys. but I am making my recovery, so I shall be updating more frequently now.

When I am sick I tend to run into problems regarding drawing and painting, like forgetting how I do things or just have a art block, so what I remember from some art advice video was to draw and keep drawing. 

don't know what to study? pick something random and study it. that simple. Just don't stop drawing and trying to learn 'cause the longer you stop the worse off you'll become and the more stuck you will be inturn. but if you continue to draw and study you'll get over your art block and things you forgot how to do will come rushing back to you. 

so you guys if y'all are stuck with art (drawing/painting etc.) don't give up just draw everything, and anything. 

don't despair- inspiration and ideas will come to you if you work hard never give up! :)

Join the Speed Painting Crowd (finally)

So how is everybody lately?! I hope y'all had a happy 4th of july, and hopefully didn't start any fires. lol
despite me being super duper shy I'm jumping into speed painting and drawing videos along with live painting chats on google hangouts. so slowly but surely I'm jumping out of my comfort zone.... and also I want to be more involved in the art community. ^^;

so I recently did a speed painting/time lapse video. last year I went to hamilton pool in austin, and took a lot of photos, I put them all into a folder (and they collected digital dust, I guess you could say) and recently I was organizing my files and came across it again, So I thought I'm gonna try and do a speed painting of this... and so I did and you guys can watch it Here! yay!! **please note I did more of a suggestive loose sorta painting style just wanted to keep it fun and full of energy. 

Next up on the video list is gonna mostly likely be a video on hands. I've had a few people asking for a video on that specifically, and I totally understand why. Hands can be quite hard if you don't fully understart how to brake them down, but I have a few tips that might come in handy ;) eh heh bad puns are bad.

A New Kids Book + More :)

Hi you guys sorry long time no post :,( things got a little crazy and yeah today I get to sit down and blog so yay (I kinnda miss it) no but really miss shouting into the darkness and hoping you guys are still reading this haha! if so feel free to comment I don't bite. xD

 As of lately I've joined up with a group called Clash of Weapons you can visit our website here clashofweapons.com (I go by the name mabushii on the C.O.W site long, long history having that nickname on the interwebs lol) But yeah I've doing illustrations for book with them

it's been very exciting! I've been stoked the whole way. Its been a dream since I was little to illustrate kids books :) I'm glad Konaa-chan and S. G. Renee were so nice to invit me into their group! 

Currently working on the next children's book in line, can't say too much but its super cute and I'm having a blast working on it!

Ocean Inspired Illustration

Hi guys! hows everyone?

So a few days a go I decided to do a bit of a test live stream VIA google+ and uploading it to my youtube account 

And I gotta say it was pretty fun! I got good feed back and I shall be doing more! but next time shall be talking next time! So please post your questions and I'll try my best to answer all of them. :D

^ this is a photo i took last weekend returning from the beach, and consequently used as my color pallet for the paintings (that i'm going to show you below) lol  

the not pretty, extremely rough idea in my sketchbook. the idea behind it is pretty much a blackmoor goldfish, water and the ocean in general. 

so i chose to do two versons one a little cooler and one a bit warmer.

i think this is one of my personal favorites 'cause when designing this i was think about project run way and harper's bazaar lol (sucha girl) but yeah, heavy inspired by those things... in my own weird way i guess.

and heres is my version of a steampunk space pirate (based loosely off the thumbnail on the lower left corner)  done for fun. cause fun is awesome :D
